Disused road bridge in Widnes set to be demolished with diversions in place

Mersey Gateway roadworks update

New works

Essential work on the Mersey Gateway Project means the following new road, lane and footpath closures will be in place over the coming days and weeks.

Please note the table below does not include details of ongoing work. For information on existing major closures and diversion routes, visit Plan Your Journey on the Mersey Gateway website.

Date Road Details
17/07/17 – 31/07/17 A533 Queensway, Widnes Overnight lane closure (7.30pm – 5am) of the Silver Jubilee Bridge northbound to Desoto Road.
18/07/17 & 19/07/17 Hutchinson Street, Widnes There will be two way temporary traffic signals between Wandsworth Way and Desoto Road (7.30pm – 5am)
20/07/17 & 21/07/17 Hutchinson Street, Widnes There will be two way temporary traffic signals between Wandsworth Way and Cromwell Street (7.30pm – 5am)
28/07/17 – 30/07/17 A562 Speke Road, Widnes Weekend closure (7.30pm Friday – Midnight Sunday) of either northbound or southbound Speke Road. The direction of the closure, and therefore the diversion, will alternate between the northbound and southbound Speke Road.
31/07/17 – 25/08/17 A533 Bridgewater Expressway, Runcorn Overnight closures (7.30pm – 5am) of the eastbound Bridgewater Expressway between Astmoor West Interchange and Astmoor East Interchange. A diversion via Astmoor Road will be in place.

21/07/17 – 24/07/17 A557 Weston Point Expressway, Runcorn Weekend closure (Friday 11pm – Monday 5am) of the northbound Weston Point Expressway between M56 roundabout and Weston Link. A diversion will be in place.
23/07/17 – 29/07/17 Hutchinson Street, Widnes Total closure (7pm Sunday) of Hutchinson Street between Wandsworth Way and Desoto Road. A diversion will be in place.
28/07/17 – 31/07/17 A533 Central Expressway, Runcorn Weekend closure (midnight Friday – midnight Sunday) of the main carriageway in both directions (north and southbound) between Halton Lea Interchange and Brook Place Interchange. A diversion will be in place.

Runcorn students get to grips with bridge building
