Construction activity marks new milestone for Mersey Gateway
The Mersey Gateway Project has reached an important milestone with work starting on the construction of a temporary trestle bridge at Wigg Island in Runcorn.

Halton Borough Council Leader, Cllr Rob Polhill, joined the Merseylink Consortium team at Wigg Island to see the trestle bridge being built
Once built, the trestle structure will stretch across the River Mersey, providing construction teams access to the estuary so that they can start work on building the new £600m bridge. The temporary trestle bridge will be some 1,000 metres long and 9 metres wide when complete. Read more →
Highways Agency M56 roadworks planned for August and September
Merseylink has been advised that Highways Agency has roadworks planned, which will affect the M56 westbound junctions 12-14 during August and September.
These roadworks are not related to the Mersey Gateway Project. Merseylink will continue to keep local residents informed of any planned roadworks that are bridge-related. Read more →
Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne announces free trips across both Silver Jubilee and Mersey Gateway bridges for ALL Halton residents
On 25 July 2014, UK Chancellor George Osborne announced that the UK Government will provide the additional funding which ensure free* trips across both the Silver Jubilee Bridge and Mersey Gateway crossing for all Halton residents.
No access between Runcorn and M56 Junction 12 on 26-28 July
There will be no access between Runcorn and Junction 12 of the M56 between 10pm this Saturday (26 July) and 5am on Monday 28 July due to a closure of the north roundabout at Junction 12.
Cranes arrive down the Manchester Ship Canal
Activity on the Mersey Gateway Project ramped up this week with the arrival of two large cranes to Wigg Island in Runcorn.
