Changes to Mersey Gateway project working hours

It is important to us at Merseylink to keep residents informed of works that are being undertaken as part of the Mersey Gateway project that may affect them.

As part of the construction of the new crossing you will be aware that construction activities have commenced in the river and on surrounding roads.

Our work in the river is restricted by the tides meaning we can only work when the tide is rising or falling. This has led us to request some extended working hours which will come into operation this weekend. Read more →

Essential work on the Mersey Gateway Project means the following new road and lane closures over the coming days and weeks.

20/10/14 – 7/11/14 A533 Halton Brook Avenue to Calvers Total closure of Brook Place footbridge for road work. Diversion in place via Halton North footbridge.
27/10/14 – 30/10/14 A533 Lodge Lane Closure of Weston Link Eastbound to Southern Expressway, with lane closure on main Central Expressway / Southern Expressway. For site clearance work.
31/10/14 A533 Southern Expressway to Central Expressway Northbound carriageway, lane closure for site clearance work.
3/11/14 – 6/11/14 A533 Lodge Lane to Halton Lea Northbound lane closure from Lodge Lane to Halton Lea, with total closure of slip road to Halton Lea Roundabout. For site clearance work.
7/11/14 A533 Halton Lea Northbound carriageway lane closure of Central Expressway (underneath Halton Lea junction). To include total closure of access slip from Halton Lea Roundabout. For site clearance work.
10/11/14 – 11/11/14 A533 Halton Lea Total closure of exit slip road from Central Expressway to Halton Lea. For site clearance work.

Marine construction begins in Mersey estuary

The arrival of three marine barges in the Mersey estuary heralds a new phase in the construction of the Mersey Gateway Bridge.

The marine equipment, which includes the 410ft Harry McGill tower crane barge, arrived in the estuary in convoy after travelling up the River Mersey from the Liverpool Docks.

DRH_1231The barges are being used to build temporary structures known as cofferdams, to enable work to begin on the construction of the pylons that will support the three towers of the 1,000m long cable-stay bridge.

Mersey Gateway team strengthened

The Mersey Gateway Crossings Board has strengthened its professional team to support the construction phase of the iconic £1.86bn Mersey Gateway Bridge project.

Paul Fenwick has joined the team as Construction Director and Helen Dearden as Finance Director bringing extensive experience in their respective fields, together with other appointments which will significantly add to the current expertise in the team.

While stepping down as Interim Chief Executive of the Board on 31 October, the project will retain the expertise of Steve Nicholson who led the Project team through the planning and procurement phases to the appointment of Project Company and start of construction. Steve will take up a new role as Special Advisor to the Project on a part time basis.
