Mersey Gateway roadworks update – 7 March 2016
Essential work on the Mersey Gateway Project means the following new road, lane and footpath closures will be in place over the coming days and weeks.

7/3/16 – 11/3/16 | A533 Queensway northbound exit slip and Ditton Roundabout, Widnes | Lane closure on Queensway northbound exit slip road to Ditton Roundabout. Ditton Roundabout will have a single lane open between Queensway northbound exit slip road and Moor Lane. There may be delays during peak periods. |
11/3/16 – 14/3/16 | Ditton Roundabout, Moor Lane and Ashley Way, Widnes | Weekend closure (7.30pm Friday to 5am Monday) of the east side of Ditton roundabout between the northbound access slip to Speke Road and the northbound exit slip from Queensway. Moor Lane in both directions and Ashley Way northbound between Victoria Road and Moor Lane will also be closed. Businesses will be open as usual and access will be maintained. A diversion will be in place. |
12/3/16 – 13/3/16 | Waterloo Road, Widnes | 3-way traffic signals on Waterloo Road between Victoria Road and Hutchinson Street to control traffic in a single lane during demolition works. |
14/3/16 – 18/3/16 | A557 Watkinson Way, Widnes | Offpeak lane closures (9.30am to 3.30pm) in both directions on Watkinson Way between Wandsworth Way and Ashley Way. |
14/3/16 – 25/3/16 | A533 Queensway at Ditton Flyover, Widnes | Offpeak lane closures (9.30am – 3.30pm) in both directions on Queensway at Ditton Flyover. |
18/3/16 – 21/3/16 | A533 Central Expressway southbound exit slip to Halton Brow and Boston Avenue, Runcorn | Weekend closure (7.30pm Friday to 5am Monday) of the southbound exit slip road from the Central Expressway to Halton Brow. A diversion will be in place. 4-way traffic signals will also be in place during works on Boston Avenue under the Central Expressway Halton Brow junction. |
26/3/16 – 28/3/16 | Moor Lane and Ashley Way, Widnes | Closure of Moor Lane in both directions and Ashley Way between Victoria Road and Moor Lane. Businesses will be open as usual and access will be maintained. A diversion will be in place. |
28/3/16 for approx. 3 months | Ashley Way, Widnes | Closure of Ashley Way between Victoria Road and Moor Lane. Businesses will be open as usual and access will be maintained. A diversion will be in place. |
28/3/16 – 29/3/16 | A533 Queensway, Widnes | Overnight closure (7.30pm – 5am) of Queensway northbound (towards Speke) between the exit slip to Watkinson Way and the northbound access slip road from Ditton Roundabout. A diversion will be in place. |
28/3/16 – 29/3/16 | A582 Speke Road, Widnes | Overnight closure (7.30pm – 5am) of Speke Road southbound (towards the Silver Jubilee Bridge) between Everite Road and the Hutchinson Street exit slip road. A diversion will be in place. |
From 29/3/16 | Lower House Lane, Widnes | Lower House Lane will be reopened to traffic. Drivers travelling south on Lower House Lane will only be able to turn left at the junction with Moor Lane until further notice. To access Ditton Roundabout from Lower House Lane, turn left, u-turn at Kingsway roundabout and travel back along Moor Lane. |
From 29/3/16 | A533 Queensway at Ditton Flyover, Widnes | Permanent total closure of the A533 Queensway in both directions at Ditton Flyover. Traffic will be diverted off Queensway and directed via Ditton Roundabout until the new bridge opens in autumn 2017. Read more. |
