The Mersey Gateway Project

When the Mersey Gateway Bridge opens in autumn 2017 you will be able to travel uninterrupted between the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Central Expressway.

You will also be able to join and leave the main route here through the new Bridgewater Junction – a new ‘dogbone’ roundabout at a low level beneath the main north-south route – which will provide a link between the Central Expressway and the Daresbury and Bridgewater Expressways.

The existing bridges along the canal towpath will be retained and there will be a significant programme of tree planting in the area.
