Merseylink scaffolding specialist hires local apprentices to work on Halton’s iconic bridge project

In recognition of National Apprentice Week (14-18 March 2016) Merseylink is pleased to announce that its scaffolding supplier Altrad NSG has hired two local apprentices to work on the Mersey Gateway Project.

David McNamara, 22, and Paul Humphries, 20, both from Runcorn, have joined the scaffolding and industrial services specialist on a 20-month apprenticeship scheme. Read more →

Busy commuter route in Widnes to be closed and demolished in spring 2016 as Mersey Gateway enters critical new phase

A section of the A533 Queensway in Widnes (known locally as the Ditton Flyover), which links Speke Road to the Silver Jubilee Bridge, will be permanently closed at the beginning of March 2016. Update: this has been postponed until the end of March.

Mermaid’s purses found on Widnes Warth salt marsh by Mersey Gateway environmental team

Shark egg cases – also known as ‘mermaid’s purses’  – were found washed up on Widnes Warth saltmarsh by a member of Merseylink’s environmental team today.

Mermaids PursesIt is thought that the egg cases probably come from a type of shark known as a Nursehound (Scyliorhinus stellaris) which can be found around the UK coastline. Read more →
