Mersey Gateway project wins national ecology award
The team building Halton’s landmark new Mersey Gateway bridge has won a national competition that recognises excellence in ecology and environmental management.

Giant bridge building machine ‘Webster’ carries out final concrete pour
MSS Webster has completed its final concrete pour on the Mersey Gateway’s south approach viaduct.
The 1,700 tonne machine, which looks and operates like a giant Meccano set, has been working on the south approach viaduct for around 10 months, slowly creating the reinforced concrete deck that will be used by 60,000 vehicles per day. Read more →
Competition opens to find 25,000th visitor to Mersey Gateway Visitor centre
Throughout the week of May 8 – 12, people heading to the Mersey Gateway visitor centres at the Catalyst Science and Discovery Museum in Widnes and in Runcorn Shopping Centre, are invited to enter a competition to find its 25,000th visitor. Read more →
Watkinson Way – update on road closure
The closure of Watkinson Way and introduction of a new road layout in this part of Widnes is an essential part of the Mersey Gateway Project.
Hugh O’Connor, General Manager at Merseylink, said that while the closures were causing delays, it is vital work, and essential to allow traffic to access the new bridge when it opens this autumn. Read more →
