Piling start times changed to 9am for Sundays in December 2014
Merseylink has amended its starting time for Sunday morning piling work in the estuary for December 2014 after listening to feedback from local residents.
Piling work will not take place on Sunday mornings in December 2014 on the trestle bridge or the cofferdams before 9am.
A spokesperson for the project said: “This piling work is essential activity and weekend working is essential to complete the work, but we are sorry that some people were disturbed by the noise last Sunday (23 November).
We are always keen to get feedback from local people and are constantly reviewing and refreshing our work plans to ensure that we can deliver the new bridge with minimal disruption to local people.
As a result, we have reviewed our starting hours for the piling work in the estuary on Sunday mornings.
Piling work on the trestle bridge and cofferdams in the estuary will not start before 9am on Sunday mornings between now and the end of 2014.
Other works, which do not generate significant noise, will start on site on Sundays from 8am.
Looking at this coming weekend (November 29/30) specifically there will be piling work continuing in the estuary but this will not start before 7am on Saturday morning or before 9am on Sunday morning.
Our permissions from Halton Borough Council allow us to work from 6am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 8am on 6pm on Sundays. However, we have listened to the concerns of local residents and councillors and made this change to the starting time for Sunday workings in December as a result.
We remain committed to delivering this project on time, and these hours were approved by the Council to accommodate work needed to be done in line with tidal restrictions and in order to comply with the Environment Agency’s mitigation requirements.
Because of these tidal and Environment Agency restrictions, we will review the situation for January 2015 onwards. We will keep people updated about our works schedule in the estuary with further information at the start of 2015.”
