Mersey Gateway Bridge – lane closures at Weston Point Expressway and M56 Junction 12 Roundabout

December 8, 2014LornaNews

Lane closures are in place at Weston Point Expressway and the M56 Junction 12 Roundabout in Runcorn as work continues on the major upgrade works to the junction.

The lane closures will be in place between the hours of 9.30am-3.30pm Monday to Friday, and between 7am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, and work is expected to be ongoing in this area until the summer of 2015.

The lane closures are essential to allow the work to be undertaken safely but are causing severe delays to traffic approaching the junction from the Silver Jubilee Bridge towards the M56.

We would encourage people to either try to find an alternative route or to allow plenty of time to get through these roadworks.

This junction will be one of the main access points to the new bridge, connecting it with the M56 at Junction 12 via the Central Expressway.

For us to complete this work safely, we have had to:

  • close a lane on the Weston Point Expressway from the footbridge up to and including the M56 Junction 12 Roundabout for main site work
  • reduce the eastbound off slip road at the M56 Junction 12 to one lane.

We are undertaking major construction works on the land adjacent to the slip roads, which involves heavy-duty vehicles travelling to and from the site on a daily basis.

These lane closures are critical in ensuring the safety of the local community, road users and our construction crews and are designed and implemented in line with the current regulations.

Safety is of paramount importance to us so please bear with us while we build your new bridge.
